Life Membership

Life membership in FPRA is considered among the highest, most prestigious honors awarded by the Association. In fact, it’s only been awarded six times in our history.

The honor is reserved for those rare individuals who have contributed unyieldingly to the Association, meaning this individual has demonstrated extraordinary service to the profession and the Association at both the state and local level, and who, throughout their career, has contributed to the careers of others for the advancement of the profession.

A Life Member follows closely behind the John W. Dillan Award, named for FPRA’s beloved founder.

How is Life Membership Awarded?

Awarding life membership is no easy task. It takes an initial nomination, followed by the unanimous approval of the member’s chapter board. The nomination is then sent to the Past Presidents’ Council, a group that consists of all former state presidents of the Association. If approved unanimously there, it then goes before the FPRA State Board of Directors where it requires a unanimous vote. Finally, a vote of the membership is required. This vote takes place during FPRA’s Annual Business Meeting held at the annual PR & Comms Summit.
